Space City Panteras 2020 Meeting and Events Calendar

POCA 2020 Calendar from the January Meting

The January meting was held at Olive Garden on I-45 North on Sat 4 Jan.
We had a fair turnout of Santos Rivera, Ed Nagel, John & Mary Taphorn, Kirby Schrader, and Fred & Roni Foreman.

After a lot of stories & lies we discussed plans for 2020. Remember this is a living document.
If you discover something we should add to the calendar, please let me or Kirby know so we can put it on the website calendar.
Some things such as Niftee 50's (Saturday night car show in the Woodlands), Cars & Coffee Memorial center (but we heard this
one is shut down due to burnouts) or similar things could be added if member want to go as a group.
Below is a summary of the group's suggestions:

January - Go-Kart races, we later rapidly selected 11 Jan as the best date.

February - Watch Vintage Racing & Meeting at Motor Sports Ranch (MSR) near Angleton.
Racing is the weekend of 22-23 Feb. Let's set the meeting date for Sat 22 Feb with rain date of 23 Feb.
Best time to be at the track determined by input from the racers in the club.

March - Since Santo's Christmas brunch party was such a success and we always like to have tech sessions.
I propose that we have more mini-tech sessions/meetings in the Spring & Autumn when the weather is best for them.
Our first will be 7 March (with rain date of 8 March). Let's say starting at 10 AM at the Foreman's place (or another place if they want to host it).
We will most likely order out for pizza as we unusually do, unless someone pipes up with an alternate meal plan.
Let us know of any specific repair issues you need to tackle.

April - the Fiat Club puts on a great rally and let us blend in with them (can one properly blend-in with a Pantera?) and have some driving fun.
It will be Thursday 2 April to Sunday 5 April and held in Waco.

Also, on 22-26 April the POCA Fun Rally is being held in Phoenix, AZ. At this date Fred foreman & Ed Nagel will be driving out.

May - Gray has graciously offered his ranch for the 11th annual Pig Roast. Date to be determined but we are tentatively thinking May.

2-3 May is the annual Keel & Wheels held in Kemah. Lots of neat cars. Does a group want to go?

June - Ed thinks his workshop should be completed in June so lets schedule another mini-tech sessions/meeting 6 June (with rain date of 7 June)

July - 11 July (to miss 4 July). Too hot so lets have an evening meeting at Olive Garden on I-45 at 7 PM.

August - 1 August. Too hot so lets have an evening meeting at Olive Garden on I-45 at 7 PM.

September - 5 September. Too hot so lets have an evening meeting at Olive Garden on I-45 at 7 PM.

October - Houston Italian Festival car show - Sunday in the 2nd week-end in October, the 10th. University of St. Thomas.
Nice shady car show with numerous food stalls.
TBD Have a suggestion? NOT 9-11 CVAR

November - TBD NOT 5-8 CVAR

December - 12 Dec Christmas Brunch Party Who's house this year?

- Santos offered to inquire at shops about setting up a Dyno test event for our cars. Date to be entered into the calendar when more details are available. I guess the first question is "How many fellows are interested to Dyno their car"?? I know I am because the last time it was dynoed it was not in tune.

Meeting Report
The 2
nd Annual Space City POCA January Go-Kart races were held 11 January.
A robust turnout of the diehard racers and want-ta-be's had a great time. After 3 10-minute races we were all pumped -up.
The times were not posted for vey long on the video screen and I never saw a print out but I did note that the Schraders had the times book-ended. Dylan had the fastest and Kirby had the slowest times.
David Bell achieved the highest altitude in his car as he rocketed over John Vincent's front wheels.
John Taphorn, I believe, came in 2
nd place with his bumper car technique.
The only other place I saw was mine - I did beat Kirby, so I was next to last.
Still it was great fun had by all.
