2015 Fun Rally Track Event at Texas World Speedway
Saturday and Sunday - May 16-17
Texas World Speedway! You arguably can't get much better than this for a track that Panteras just love. It's a fast track and that's just right for their 'long legs’.
The track is closing for good at the end of May 2015, so if you ever dreamed of driving your car at TWS on a vintage super speedway and road course, this is your last chance!
This event is designed to give drivers a safe environment to explore the higher limits of the car and to improve and refine your abilities behind the wheel. The goal is to improve your skills as a driver and to strengthen your knowledge of your car’s handling characteristics; all while having fun.
Due to track closure, demand is high and space is limited, so please register as soon as possible to ensure a space. Registration forms are at the SCPOCA website.
The course (configuration) we will be running is the preferred long 2.9 mile course consisting of 15 turns, off and on camber and the long banked front straight.
Other track information can be found at Texas World Speedway’s website.

Be sure to read about the history of the track. Remember... it's going away... sniff, sniff...
Here’s a video from inside Tom Upton’s Pantera in September at the CVAR event.
POCA will be joining our host, The Driver's Edge, a high performance driving school, which is well known in the Texas area. Space City Pantera members have attended many Driver's Edge events during the last 20 years and information about their events can be found at www.thedriversedge.net/
The Driver's Edge Team is excited about our participation and keenly aware of the momentous occasion this will be with vintage Panteras staged on a historic race facility.
You will have plenty of time on the track! There will be at least 4 sessions of 20 minutes each. Sunday, when some have had enough and start heading for home, they have been known to combine groups and you’ll get even more time, if wanted.
The Driver's Edge uses five run groups; green, blue, yellow, red and white.
- The Green group is for those new to driving their cars on the track as well as new
to TWS. - The Blue group is for more experienced drivers.
- Both the Green and Blue groups have instructors as mandatory, but they may
promote you to Blue Solo if they are happy with you. - Yellow is for the further experienced drivers and instructors can be requested if
notification is given in time. - Red is for those who have lots of experience.
- White is for the instructors... they need time to play, too!
Note that you may get the opportunity to be promoted up to a faster run group at any time during the event. Or, you can stay where you are.
Remember, a relaxed and fun environment!
Safety is paramount. Corners workers are enthusiastic volunteers, so pay attention to them!
Ambulance, tow truck and fire fighting equipment are on hand at all times.
Remember, you only have to go as fast as YOU want to go. We can promise you'll have a blast!
Please be advised that you should have your tech inspection done prior to arriving at the event on Saturday morning.
John Taphorn and Kirby Schrader can inspect a limited number of cars on Friday evening at the resort, but please be nice. Keep in mind you'll be delaying us from having 'other fun'.
Bob Benson, Kevin Hubby and Jeff Detrich come to mind for tech inspections in your area. Find a very knowledgeable Pantera person who knows what it takes to have your Pantera safe.
During lunch time on both days, anyone wishing to can join in the session to experience the race track tour during a pace car controlled session. This presents an opportunity for those who don’t want to be on the track at speed; yet, but would like to experience driving on a race track at a faster pace than you would on the street. Your car qualifies if it has good tires, no fluid leaks and seat belts for all passengers....and YES, you can take a passenger out with you during this track tour!
Space City Panteras and the Driver's Edge will have a Pantera only parking area for those who will be attending, but not running on the track.
We will also be scheduling a Pantera only photography opportunity with the cars lined up on the front straight. The goal is to smoke the record number of Panteras in a single photo held by previous Space City Panteras events. An effective parking brake is a must! The front straight is steeper than it looks. You can check out our previous events at www.spacecitypanteras.com
There will be food and drinks (breakfast and lunch) available from on site by a local vendor. The cook and his wife have been at TWS since the day the track opened!
All attendees will sign a waiver when entering the track and each will pay $5 per vehicle.
For additional Information, please go to the POCA or SCPOCA website for applications and forms.
